Who Is Monitoring The Web?

The internet is rapidly become the most preferred companion for many. Whatever information we need we search for it on the internet. However the internet is no longer safe as far as privacy is concerned. Many forces around want to watch what information you are receiving and relaying out. As an internet user it is important to know who is watching your internet activity and know how to deal with it.

The government and its agencies
The government is watching you and can store your internet activity in its database for up to five years. Other government agencies in charge of security such as the FBI, CIA, and homeland security need information to help them do their work. If you are an avid fan of social media websites then be on the lookout as these are government department hotspots. Even foreign governments do a lot of internet surveillance. They usually search for specific keyword related to insecurity, so whenever you are searching the internet take note of words like attack, hit, armed etc.

Your Internet Service provider
ISP’s provide internet connection for people in their homes and businesses. If you trust your internet service provider that much because of its services then you will not believe this. Your ISP is watching your internet activity and doing it as a directive from the government. If you dare download any copyrighted material without paying for it, then your internet service provider will automatically know. For ISP’s it’s more like a fight against piracy and covers videos, software and music downloaded from the internet.

The National Security Agency
The NSA monitors both domestic and internal internet use. This is due to the rising cases of terrorism activities. With a very large spying Centre, NSA is bale to intercept all digital communications. NSA can get access to contents of private emails, telephone messages, calls and any searches made on Google.

Network administrators and webmasters
Since they are charged with the responsibility of maintaining the internet, they also monitor its user’s activities. They use highly effective internet monitoring software. Institutions and organizations do this for their employees in order to know what activities they engage in while connected to the internet.

Potential employers
Employers are becoming very cautious with whom they employ. People have transformed into criminals especially with the availability and affordability of the internet. Before you get employed, your potential employer would like to track your social media usage in the past few months. Employers are just seeking to know how active you are on the internet and what sort of information you exchange with your peers.

How to hide who you are using a proxy
You cannot stop using the internet because of all these powers monitoring you. However you can hide your identity and become anonymous using a proxy. A proxy is generally a computer that enables internet users to connect to the internet indirectly. This implies that whatever you request goes to the proxy server which then manages all your requirements.
There are numerous proxy servers that will help you search the internet anonymously. They protect your identity online by hiding your internet protocol address. A proxy server therefore just makes you appear to be someone else so that it is not easy to trace your IP. There are transparent, anonymous, distorting, and high anonymity proxies all with different capabilities to meet your needs.

Using a Virtual Network to encrypt everything
Virtual private networks enable users to access private networks safely and remotely transfer data in public networks. So if you want to get away from these spy masters you can use VPN to encrypt everything. When encrypted the information is simply put in a special code and prevent people from viewing it without permission. VPN’s are mostly important for business and corporate organizations. This means that as much as anyone can access your website from a public network they cannot read the information that is not intended for them.

Conclusion
Therefore with a VPN or proxy you can comfortably continue browsing the internet. A proxy server conceals your identity while a VPN allows you access harmful sites securely. Privacy is necessary for every individual but should not be used to harm others.
